    Discussion

MP Materials Corp ($MP) position entered yesterday was kicked out immediately by the mechanical stop loss order, as it broke down into the 20MA with an increase in volume. This immediate kick-out might be triggered by many factors including increasing yield, while this is not observed in other precious metal or commodity stocks.

In this situation, the failure might be more explained by the weakness of MP without solid demand or enough consolidation after the two recent pocket pivots on 8th April and 14th May.

    Insight & Applied Buddhism

Although the first setup comes into a immediate kick-out, a good discpline for stop-loss order and thus limit in risk exposure are maintained, which reduces the psychological influence and accumulation of bad emotion for future trading. I try to elaborate below the applied buddhist practice by six perfections, or six paramitas, in Mahayanma Buddhism based on Prajñapāramitā sūtras (प्रज्ञापारमिता सूत्र):

Six Paramitas in Trading Behavoral Control

    1. Perfection of Generosity (Dāna pāramitā; दान पारमिता)
      – Control in small entry position to avoid over-sizing and limit risk exposure
    2. Perfection of Discipline (Śīla pāramitā; शील पारमिता)
      – Use in stop-loss order to avoid manual control and decision making
    3. Perfection of Patience (Śīla pāramitā; क्षान्ति पारमिता)
      – No close and over monitoring in movement after setup
    4. Perfection of Diligence (Vīrya pāramitā; वीर्य पारमिता)
      – To understand and accept impermenance of the market
      – To investigate, review and enhance the next trade (Like this post)
    5. Perfection of Concentration (Śīla pāramitā; ध्यान पारमिता)
      – Be mindful of the mind and emotion like the Greed manifesting before setup and Hatred after the kick-out
      – Meditate and contempltae on the psychological reflection
      – Concentrate and review the execution
    6. Perfection of Wisdom (Śīla pāramitā; प्रज्ञा पारमिता)
      – The first time to start writing a trading log in order to generate insight on both the market, investment performance and self reflection etc.

    Discussion

MP Materials Corp ($MP) experienced continuous downtrend after it topped in early April 2022. In early May 2024, MP successfully cleared the 20-week moving average with an extended pocket pivot on 14th May 2024, which might mark an institution buying.

However, the pocket pivot breakout did not follow through and failed immediately on 14th May 2024, with a volume higher than average.

After around a week of selling and consolidation, MP experienced a volume dry-up and closed above 20MA on 24th May 2024, which might indicate a low selling pressure and support at the 20MA.

Accordingly, an initial position is setup using the 20MA – 2% as the tight selling guide with a maximum risk exposure up to -$320.

  • (1) A Full Comparison between Converse Models: Chuck 70 vs All Star vs Made in Japan models

    (1) A Full Comparison between Converse Models: Chuck 70 vs All Star vs Made in Japan models

    (Credit: Converse Japan)

Are you a fan of Converse?

If you are, you might have encountered certain confusion while buying one regarding which models to purchase and what the differences are between Converse models, which involves much variation ranging from their designs to materials used, and logos to even subtle differences in the naming. If you are not, even more probably.

Instead of searching around in Converse’s official websites around the world, in which they could adopt different naming terminology on the same sneaker version and also cover a limited scope of models, maybe you could read the brief summary below to grab a sense out of it before deciding which your best choice is. So, I hope this post would help you and I when buying, or regularly repurchasing, a new pair of Converse sneakers.

How many Converse models are there?

A short answer is that there are many versions of Converse models, while regardless of Converse’s historical development and vintage versions, limited editions or special designs, they might be classified into 3 types below:

    1. Classic Chuck (a.k.a. All Star)
    2. Chuck 70 (a.k.a. Chuck Taylor, Chuck 70, 70s)
    3. Japan Models (Made in Japan, U.S. Originator etc.)

Type 1: Classic Chuck All Star – The Basic Model

    Converse Classic Chuck All Star

The first type refers to the most historical and original design of Converse sneaker – the Classic Chuck, which is the most affordable and basic version of all. Converse even named it as the “MAINSTAY”, which remarks its origin and symbolisation of the brand’s iconic and long history in its creation in 1917.

Type 2: Chuck 70 – The Vintage model

    Converse Chuck 70

The next model comes the Chuck 70, also called 70s or Chuck Taylor, which is remarked by its black label and its use of rubber in creamy butter colour. The Chuck 70 could be regarded as an improved design over the Classic Chuck with more vintage taste and elements, like an egret midsole, ornate stitching, and a taller rubber sidewall, which also make model come with a higher price.

Type 3: Japan Model – The Japanese Craftsmanship Models

Last but not least, here it comes the best Converse edition known in terms of their production quality and materials used in the Japan versions. Firstly, although we are taking about Japan models, while not all of them are made in Japan. Currently, there are only two versions as I know are made in Japan – one is the version in the picture above, another is the brand new All Star J 80s versions launched in February 2024.

Apart from that, for example, there are two other Japan versions – the All Star US (U.S. Originator) and the All Star Ⓡ version, which are both made in Indonesia currently.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for your step here searching for Buddhism, be it out of coincidence, curiosity or suffering of yours or someone. I sincerely hope that you would be able to explore and learn something from the ancient wisdom, which might help change your life from all prospectives.

    Q1. Is Buddhism a religion or science? I’m not a Buddhist…

When talking about Buddhism, the first question that one might ask or concern is regarding whether Buddhism is a religion or science. The short answer is “Both, yes and no”. (Yes a very non-duality or Middle Way style of Buddhist argumentation.)

Buddhism is often regarded a religion as it is commonly understood and accepted in the contemporary society. As a lay person, we could meet Buddhism from many occasions in our life, while many of us likely come across Buddhism for the first time when we visit a temple when travelling somewhere in the world, especially countries like China, Japan and Thailand, where Buddhism is common and countries with Buddhism as their state religion like Bhutan.

In its usual form or impression to society, Buddhism or Buddhist culture is known for its rituals, monks, Buddha statues in temples and profound sutras written in Sanskrit or Tibetan. One might also relate Buddhism to its archaeological or mystical side, or even literature like the popular novel “Journey to the West”.

After all, Buddhism is “firstly” a religion from its origin to current status, and from its historical development to its recent application. So why shall we ask whether Buddhism is a form science, or how shall we explore and understand its non-religious angle?

    To be continue…

Oklo rang the opening bell at the NYSE (Credit: Oklo Twitter)

“With exceptionally low redemptions, >$300M in capitalisation, and dedicated founders and key investors locked up for up to 3 years, we can’t wait for what’s next on our mission to provide clean, reliable, affordable power!” Oklo posted in its X (former Twitter) page.

Oklo has been listed and trading under the ticker $OKLO via its merger with the special vehicle AltC Acquisition Corp in NYSE earlier in May 2024, while its stock price slumped hard by more than 50% in the first day. The brutal downturn should have triggered lots of disappointment from its shareholders and long term holders of the former ALCC. Some shareholders and market players even argued this is a scam or shell company as there is so far no actual earning or business doing, as Oklo has not yet deployed its SMRs to any of its partners signing the recent agreements or memorandums.

In its latest update in X (or Twitter), Oklo posted the the team ringing the opening bell at the NYSE exchange on 24th May 2024, which seemingly symbolised a opening of new page of the company’s vision and mission in the nuclear energy industry.

The company suggested in its X post that there is so far low in redemptions as the key founders and investors’ positions would be locked for up to 3 years. This should have eliminated part of the market’s concern over insiders selling over the past few days of vigours sell off. With more than $300 million in capitalisation, the company looks forward to work on their mission to provide clean, reliable yet economical nuclear power to its clients and the world, via its development and deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

Net Worth Projection of the SMRs market by 2032 (Credit: Precedence Research)

According to a research released by Precedence Research, the net worth of the SMRs industry is expected to grow to more than $8 billion by 2032. Asia Pacific region is expected to expand at the faster compound annual growth rate (CARG) from 2023 to 2032.

Based on the snapshot at 2022, heavy water reactors have dominated the industry by Reactor Type, while the application is mostly on power generation segment.

Is Oklo the next unicorn in the market? How shall we interpret its IPO performance? What should we do if we would like to take a part? We will take about the stock performance of OKLO, entry setup and risk management.

Oklo (Nasdaq: OKLO), a nuclear energy unicorn company, recently debuted on the New York Stock Exchange via a SPAC merger called AltC Acquisition Corp, which is backed by OpenAI’s Sam Altman. The company aims to build on previous nuclear energy innovations by producing small-scale reactors, known as SMRs.

Oklo’s major plan is to development, build and operate Small Modular Reactors, or SMRs, based on traditional nuclear fission technology while under a more economical scale than the traditional nuclear power plants that commonly known for.

SMRs are small-sized nuclear fission reactors which are relatively more flexible yet efficient than traditional nuclear reactors. The reactors are modularly built which allows users to combine, arrange and operate them by series or segments instead of one single unit or nuclear power plant.

Such modularized design and system could provide greater flexibility and scalability in even lower costs, which is more superior and feasible than traditional options in existing nuclear industry. Some experts even regard SMRs as the transitional technology until human could make nuclear fusion generated energy possible and economical.

Intuitive Machines has just won a NASA contract regarding sending scientific experiments back to the moon, which is an exciting news for both the company and the new journey in human’s lunar exploration.

    What is Intuitive Machines?

Intuitive Machines, Inc. (Nasdaq: LUNR) is an American space exploration company headquartered in Houston, Texas. It was founded in 2013 by Stephen Altemus, Kam Ghaffarian, and Tim Crain, to provide lunar surface access, lunar orbit delivery, and communication from lunar distance. Intuitive Machines holds three NASA contracts under the space agency’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, to deliver payloads to the lunar surface. Among these, the company holds a contract to develop a Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV).

Privately held Intuitive Machines, LLC became a public company in February 2023 after merging with special purpose acquisition company Inflection Point Acquisition Corp. ] On February 22, 2024, the Odysseus IM-1 spacecraft landed on the moon. It was the first privately built spacecraft to land on the moon and the first American spacecraft to do so since 1972. The Odysseus lander rolled over on landing, but its instruments were still partially functional (albeit with reduced descent capabilities), so the mission was judged a success.
